How to prepare for your first session

Before a first session the same question usually comes up: do I need to prepare somehow? You do, but none of it is hard, and most of it you can sort out the evening before.

01

Get some sleep and skip the alcohol

Leave alcohol for another day, ideally a full day before the session. It thins the blood, so the skin takes the ink less well, and instead of tattooing I keep wiping the area. You see it later, in the healing. Lack of sleep works the same way, just more slowly. After two hours in the chair your body starts asking for what it’s owed.

If you take blood thinners or have diabetes, tell me before your appointment. We don’t stop any medication on our own; that’s something you agree with your doctor.

Sandwich and a mug of coffee

02

Eat before you leave home

People go pale in the chair not from pain but from an empty stomach. Have a proper meal about two hours before and don’t come straight from work on nothing but coffee. Bring water and something sweet; a break comes in handy during longer sessions.

T-shirt on a hanger and shorts

03

Dress comfortably

For a thigh, shorts work well; for a shoulder blade, a T-shirt that’s easy to take off. The rule is simple: I need access to the area, and you need to be comfortable in those clothes for a few hours. Wear things you don’t mind ruining, because ink leaves stains that won’t wash out.

Sun, sunglasses and sunscreen

04

Don’t tan before your session

Sunburnt skin, or skin irritated by exfoliation, doesn’t get tattooed. Plan the seaside trip and the tanning bed for after the session, not before it. In the morning, don’t put any cream on the area.

Pocket watch

05

Your first session takes longer than you think

Block out the whole time and don’t plan anything right after. Rushing helps nobody, and the last shading is better done calmly than in a hurry.

We agree on the design beforehand

Write to me with what you have in mind, where on the body and roughly how big. I will reply with a design proposal, a quote and an available date. I reserve your date after a deposit, which is deducted in full from the final price. This prevents available slots from going to waste.

If you have a question that isn’t covered here, just write.
